Hey you! Thank you very much for the ask – I hope you also have a nice day! (From this post!)
3. Which part of [title] was hardest to write?
Witches and Warriors – it was definitely the assault scene. I’d kind of briefly sketched out an idea for myself of who Loki was in this AU, and even though I knew it’d be interrupted, it was horrible to hurt him like that. Despite how cathartic it can be to write, I often find it very difficult.
Save the Last Dance – I think it was chapter 2? In general I found the start of the story kind of difficult to write. Because it needed to start in Silvia, but the story was going to happen in the forest, so I wanted them to get there as soon as possible. I did enjoy writing Ochako and Izuku’s conversation though – and Izuku having dinner with Inko. I wanted to make sure to keep those.
Okie doke, since you didn’t specify people/fandom I’m gonna guess BNHA and MomoJirou? I hope you like it!
“Don’t Flirt With Death Cause It Will Kiss Back”
Momo has always been a good witch, in terms of both competency and humour. She receives nothing but praise at the academy for her skills and her virtue: her aptitude in conjuration is especially remarkable. She can pull objects out of thin air as easily as breathing, when such spells would leave other magic-users drained for days.
There is, however, a problem.
See, Momo can’t conjure living things. She can’t conjure creatures at all, for two reasons. First: she seems to have some kind of magical block. It is a source of constant embarrassment and annoyance to her that even when she tries to cast the very, very simple spell to conjure her familiar, all she gets is a dead raven. That leads rather neatly into the second problem: Momo can only conjure dead things, and conjuring dead things is necromancy, and necromancy is very much not the sort of the thing that Good Girls do.
But that’s not enough for Yaoyorozu Momo. Because she’s clever, and she’s powerful, and she’s powerfully curious and there has to be a reason that all she can bring out of the Other Place is dead things, right? There has to be a cause?
With all the guilt and pent up tension of a girl who’s spent far too long behaving, Momo starts going on late night study sessions, creeping into forbidden parts of the library and learning more and more about necromancy. It turns out that she’s an even better necromancer than she is a conjurer, and Momo is one of the most gifted conjurers in the land.
So one day, Momo finds herself in a graveyard, giving herself a continuous mental lecture that sounds oddly like her best friend, Shouto. It’s the middle of the night, and it’s cold. She finds a tree, an old tree: a Yew standing at the corner of plot. Nervously, she pulls candles out of her satchel, and draws a pentacle in the dirt.
Yaoyorozu Momo conjures her Familiar.
There’s a shiver in the air, the whole fabric of reality ripples, just for a moment. And then, casual as anything, a young woman steps out of nothing into the pentacle. She’s got short black hair and dark eyes and pale skin. Her lips are painted black, as are her nails. She smirks at Momo.
Then she steps forward, and breaks the pentacle, and kisses her.
“Took you long enough.”
(Or: the many adventures of Momo the witch and her maybe-possibly-reincarnated-possibly-infernal-undead-girlfriend )
Marzipan Tell us about something you like, even though many people don’t.
I love reading the dictionary!!! I have been told repeatedly that this is boring, but it’s not. Like you obviously don’t read start to finish, but you can just flip a dictionary open and then skip the words you know and learn a whole bunch of new things that you didn’t even know there were words for! It’s the best!
Also, I really like rogue-like survival games. It’s kiiiind of a love-hate relationship, but I get very obsessed. Right now I’m playing one I adore called the Flame in the Flood, which is kinda glitchy, but I still love it very much.
O Captain, My Captain Is there any scene in a movie or book bursting of such grandness you could cry?
Yes!!! Oh man so many. The whole ending of the Infernal Devices quartet by Philip Reeve. Essentially the entire book that is Do Not Say We Have Nothing by Madeleine Thien. Sonmi-351′s speech in Cloud Atlas.
Actually this trailer for Cloud Atlas always makes me cry:
Serenade Tell us about a rather unknown musician you love listening to.
I really like Jason Webley!! Jason Webley and Little Comets, I think they’re not super well known. I especially love Pyramid by Jason Webley, mostly cos of Welcome to Night Vale.
Zärtlichkeit Name a word you love, from a foreign language.
Oof, I’m gonna cheat and do a few because I love them all far too much.
Glas – Welsh, can mean the blue of the sky, the green of the grass, the grey of the cliffs or the colour of the sea. Kind of archaic now, but in Medieval Welsh it meant all those things.
Uhtceare – Old English, the worries that run through you mind in the grey light before the dawn. Uht refers to that specific time of day, and ceare is for worries or cares.
Kintsukuroi – I think a lot of people know this one, but Japanese – referring to an artistic method of repairing broken ceramics with gold or silver glaze. The idea suggests that something becomes more beautiful for having been broken.
Komorebi – Japanese. A word for the sunlight through leaves in the trees.
bells: what sounds are your favorite or calm you the most?
I mean, church bells are pretty high up there actually. But birdsong and the sea, too. Plus wind through the trees: a susurration, as I learned from Terry Pratchett! Nature sounds in general, but especially birds and the sea.
spit: do you get jealous easily?
Yes and no. I get insecure easily. It really depend on how much communication is happening. I don’t really get jealous of friends, but if I’m in a relationship and my S/O starts chasing someone, and they haven’t talked to me about it, then I’ll start getting real insecure. But generally I think I’m pretty chill, and if communication has happened I tend not to mind
cupboard: a good childhood memory
Whenever my brother and I went to stay with my grandad, my Mum’s Dad, before my parents arrived – he’d wake us up at 5am to go picking strawberries in the fields a few miles from his house. Then we’d come back and have strawberries and clotted cream and brown sugar for breakfast as the sun rose.
vodka: do you drink?
Yeah, but not heavily. I’ll have maybe, 2 to 5 beers in an average week, sometimes more if I go out. My family is one of those ones where everyone has drunk for as long as I can remember, so it was never a big deal to me tbh
This is so cheesy, but I’m a 90s baby. Torn, Natalie Imburglia
anemone – were you ever interested in greek mythology?
Oh hell yeah! My field of study at uni was early medieval british and viking age scandinavian history. Before I found and adored that course, I was considering Classics. I know a decent amount about graeco-roman mythology and history. (and have done lectures on its queerness)
snapdragon – favourite mythical creature?
Oh wow this is tricky. All? I’m a big fan of dryads, selkies and naiads. The more naturally wild the better. Also, Griffins. Griffins rock. (And dragons ofc! Though generally prefer Eastern to Western dragons – more bearers of and searchers for wisdom, less embodiment of human violence and greed.)
delphinium – what’s your star sign – does it suit you?
Capricorn! Eh, it suits me more than I used to think it did. It’s supposed to be all about being grounded and stubborn and ambitious, and I’m pretty flighty and forgetful. I spend most of my time with my head in the clouds. Still, I am proud, I can be very stubborn, and I think I’m more ambitious than I thought. Ambitious in the way that I want to get shit done so I can do what I want to do. Which I think is pretty goat-fish way of seeing things.
Yes and no. No because my full name is weirdly formal/fancy. Yes, because one of its meanings is ‘messenger’, which as a person who wants to write things and make radio, I read as ‘storyteller’. That makes me happy.
5. what is your relationship status?
Single! I recently broke up with my girlfriend, but it’d been a long time coming and went real well. Now I’m chilling.
25. what color socks are you wearing?
Dark blue and red!
76. what color looks best on you?
Oh man, I’m not sure. Red, I think? Either dark reds or light golds, though I wear a lot of blue, black and white.
Good question! So, so far I’ve written Mido as a cis boy. However, I think a lot of people make a really good case for trans deku and I’m a little bit in love with him. So there’s a WIP I have (that, fair warning, may never see the light of day) with trans boy Deku who wears All Might binders because I think he’s charming.
