I really like the idea of Aziraphale’s character development over his existence being “Earth belongs to God and I’m an angel so it’s my job to protect it” > “Earth belongs to God and I just live here, I don’t have any particular duty to anything” > “Earth may belong to God in an abstract sense but since I’m the one who lives here it belongs to me in a more immediate sense and therefore I want to protect it”

Percy: You can like me. I would love that. And in fact, I hope that I can earn your like
Vax, with feeling: I do like you
Percy: I just never want to earn your trust
Vax: Well, then it’s your lucky day
